アクセントで彼(かれ)がドイツ人だとわかる。

I can tell by his accent that he is German.

私(わたし)が話しかけた人(ひと)はアメリカ人(ひと)でなくドイツ人(ひと)だった。

The man to whom I spoke was a German, not an American.

私(わたし)は長いあごひげを生やしたあのドイツ人を知っています。

I know that German with a long beard.

我々ドイツ人は神(かみ)を恐れるが、それ以外この世で何者も恐れない。

We Germans fear God, but nothing else in the world.

このことは、人間(にんげん)共通の宿命とさえいえる素因であって、なにも、ドイツ人に限ったことではない。

This is a basic factor that can even be said to be the common lot of man; it certainly doesn't apply only to Germans.
