Story & Premise

サカモトデイズ (Sakamoto Days, stylized SAKAMOTO DAYS) follows Taro Sakamoto, a 伝説 among 殺し屋 — professional killers — so skilled that both criminals and law enforcement feared him. Then he fell in love with a shop clerk named Aoi, and made her a promise: if he ever put on weight, he would quit killing for good. He gained the weight. He kept the promise.

Years later, Taro is a soft-spoken, overweight 店 owner running Sakamoto's Mart, a tiny コンビニ-style shop in a quiet mountain town, together with his wife and young daughter, Hana. He looks nothing like his old self — but his reflexes, precision, and combat instincts are exactly as lethal as ever, even if a chase now leaves him gasping for breath. Because a staggering bounty still sits on his head from his days in the JAA (Japan Assassins Association), old rivals, bounty hunters, and former colleagues keep tracking him down, forcing him to fight — always careful to protect his shop, his customers, and his cover — without ever technically breaking his vow not to kill again.

He's soon joined by Shin Asakura, a young telepathic ex-hitman sent to assassinate him who instead becomes his reluctant bodyguard and delivery boy, along with a growing cast of allies and enemies, including the shapeshifting hunter Lu and members of the shadowy organization called the Order.

「一度でも人を殺したら、それでおしまいだ」 Ichido demo hito o koroshitara, sore de oshimai da. "If I kill even once, that's the end of everything." — the vow that defines Taro's new life.

Cultural Context

What sets Sakamoto Days apart from other action-focused 少年ジャンプ series is its domestic, almost mundane framing device. Instead of a tournament arc or a quest, the ongoing hook is a man trying to keep 家族 life, small-business routine, and a violent past from colliding in front of his customers. Comedy comes from the mismatch between his harmless, pudgy shopkeeper appearance and his instant, terrifyingly efficient combat skill — a bullet deflected with a rice scoop, a knife fight paused because a customer walked in needing change. An アニメ adaptation produced by TMS Entertainment, directed by Masaki Watanabe, premiered its first cour worldwide on Netflix (and in Japan) on January 11, 2025, with a second cour following on July 14, 2025.
